101 Faces of Mascara Application

Mascara Face - The Daily Rumble - Emma Rumble
Mascara. A makeup necessity. Even if we're super short of time I'm pretty confident in saying that, out of all the cosmetics we own, mascara is one stage we just won't skip. I probably apply mascara 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Maybe more. That's a whole lot of mascara application.

Why, in that case, do we feel the need to pull such *HIDEOUS* faces when we apply it? Like, really super scary, embarrassingly bad faces. Faces that could easily scare small children.

The thing is you don't actually need to pull a face - it doesn't help or improve the mascara application. In fact it's actually possible to apply it with a normal face, but yet face pull we do.

Next time you go to put on your mascara stop and have a quick look at the face you're pulling. It may well be one of these:

The Liebster Award

I'm pretty new to the wonderful world of blogging, although I've been thinking about writing one for a good year or so I only actually put pen to paper, or should I say fingers to keys at the end of July this year.
In the short time I've been posting I've learnt so much including the fact that the blogging world is super friendly and that other bloggers are really supportive.

This week I was introduced to the Liebster Award by the lovely Angie from the incredible beauty & lifestyle blog Chocolate & Lipstick. Make sure you go and have a read, I love it. Thank you so much Angie for nominating me.

Okay, so the Liebster Award rules go like this:
1) Thank you nominator and post a link to their blog.
2) Display the award on your blog.
3) Give 11 facts about yourself.
4) Answer the 11 questions provided to you by the person that nominated you.
5) Nominate fellow bloggers.
6) Create 11 new questions for your nominee's to answer.
7) Copy and post these questions into your blog and repeat.

So, here are my 11 facts:
1. I have two children, Ellie (7) and Ethan (11 weeks).
2. I used to work in Children's TV before having my little ones. I worked at BBC1, the Disney Channel & Nickelodeon making live content. (Dick & Dom in Da Bungalow was my absolute faveourite job)
3. I've been married for 9 years & I met my husband Mark through work (he used to be a TV presenter). We got engaged in less than 6 months & were married in under a year.
4. I have a chihuahua called Buddy who I absolutely adore (full name Buddy Boy Bingo Nuts - I have no idea where this came from).
5. I love all types of craft. Making things makes me happy.
6. I'm a complete chocoholic.
7. I've met & worked with a whole host of celebrities from Beyoncé to Justin Timberlake to Kermit the Frog.
8. My dream bag is the Chanel 2.55. One day, oh one day.
9. My Grandad was a war hero who had a book and film made about him (Google Charles Coward). I got to go to Number 10 to collect a posthumous award from the Prime Minister.
10. I used to make wedding stationery in my spare time until Ethan came along.
11. I'm scared of the dark.

Here are my 11 questions from Angie at Chocolate & Lipstick:
1: If you were to change the name of your blog, what would it be and why?
This is a tricky one. I honestly have no idea. It took me long enough to come up with The Daily Rumble. Perhaps i'd drop the Daily and change it to '3 or 4 times a week' Rumble!
2: Where do you find inspiration to write your blog?
Everyday life being a mum of 2 (with an 11 week old), walking around the shops browsing new products and things that make me smile.
3: Other than blogging, what do you do in your spare time?
Not all that much with a baby. I love to read, watch YouTube and make things.
4: Have you ever considered quitting your blog, and starting over?
Not just yet but I'm sure one day I probably will feel this way.
5: Your go to beauty look?
Flushed cheeks, defined eyes and a nude lip.
6: Your favourite subject to blog about?
Products I've found that I really love and my mummy-moments equally.
7: What camera and editing applications do you use in regards the images you post?
*Blushes* Yikes, just my Iphone for now. Sometimes I use picmonkey. Once I've been blogging a touch longer I'll definitely invest in a decent camera.
8: Do you use a post scheduler, or do you generally post and go?
I normally post and go when something's ready to be published, however I'm scheduling posts to go live when I'm away soon.
9: Your favourite time of day/week to post for your blog.
I've been trying to post something new daily, so far so good. I normally post in the morning before my day gets too carried away in nappies and bottles.
10: If you could only choose one: Lipstick or Mascara?
Mascara everyday of the week. I'd feel naked without it.
11: Makeup Geek eyeshadows or MAC?
I'll have to say MAC as I've not yet got my hands on any Makeup Geeks.

Now, I nominate Brenda from Brenda BusyBee and Claire from The Diary of a Clueless Mother

1. How long have you been blogging?
3. What's the one beauty product you've repurchased the most?
4. Which band/artist is your all time fave?
5. What's your faveourite blog?
6. Which post of yours did you enjoy writing the most?
7. What's your faveourite take-away?
8. How would you describe your style?
9. What was/is your least faveourite and most faveourite thing about being pregnant?
10. Faveourite day of the week & why?
11. What do you order at Starbucks?

So there you have it, the Liebster Awards. I hope you've enjoyed learning a little more about me!

I'm off to order some Makeup Geek eyeshadows!

A little QVC crush

QVC - The Daily Rumble
When you say the letters QVC for the majority of people it conjures up the image of old age pensioners buying useless 'household helpers' with their pension money. Teleshopping has a pretty shoddy reputation. When I say I got something from QVC or even that I regularly watch it I often get a shocked/confused/amazed response. So much so that in my defense I decided to write a little about my love for this TV channel.

I love QVC. Seriously utterly *LOVE* it. And i'm not a pensioner. And I don't buy useless gadgets. I'm a beauty product obsessed mum in her 30's. Of course I love going out shopping but QVC offers a little extra, not just the ability to buy stuff sat in your PJs on a rainy Sunday evening.

They have really competitive prices, especially with their 'Today's Special Value' (one product on a 24 hour super price) but that's not just it - they offer really great brands. Like proper well known and loved big brands.
Yes, they sell random clothes and faux diamond jewelry but they also sell much wanted high-end brands that are often only available in department stores. Even better still they offer products that you want, that you *need*, that are UK exclusives - QVC is the only place to buy them. Really. I heard a lot about Tarte and naturally wanted the whole range. The only place in the UK you can buy it is, yes you've guessed it, QVC. You're starting to see why I like it so, right?

QVC - The Daily Rumble

So, apart from Tarte what other brands am I talking about? It would probably be quicker to list the cosmetics and beauty brands that they don't sell. Sat from the comfort of your own sofa you can buy products from:

Benefit, Bobby Brown, Liz Earle, Elemis, bareMinerals, Mally, Nails Inc, Leighton Denny, Eyeko, Josie Maran, Philosopy, Stila, L'Occitane, James Read, Bliss, OPI & Molton Brown to name just a few.

QVC - The Daily Rumble

I mostly watch for the beauty products but if you're into your gadgets they have Apple, Bose, Sony, Dyson.... you get my drift.

QVC also provides you with information about the products on screen - they don't ram it down your throat with a hard sell. They give you the info and let you decide whether to make the plunge or not.... and when you do decide to go for something that purchase also comes with a 30 day money back guarantee. A guarantee that lets you take the item out of the box and USE IT. For 30 days. And then if you decide it's not for you, you send it back. Used. For a full refund. No brainer really.

QVC - The Daily Rumble

So next time there's nothing on the telly give it a go. I think you'll be surprised.

I got my Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil from QVC - check out my Tried & Tested review here.

Do you watch QVC? What's been your faveourite purchase?

I'm off to watch some telly!

5 Product Face Tag

Emma Rumble - The Daily Rumble
So, hands up. I'm a complete make-up addict.

On a typical average day I'll use around 14 different cosmetics on my face. Yep, 14. (Primer, foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blusher, highlighter, eyeshadow primer, eyeshadows x2, eyeliner, mascara, eyebrow pencil, lipgloss).

Do I need all of that day to day? Nope, definitely not.

If I'm in a rush I will simplify my 'routine' but the truth is I love the process of applying it just as much as I love buying it & wearing it.  The more the merrier in my book. Don't get me wrong, I don't bust a drag queen look but less is more certainly does not apply not me.

I first saw the '5 Product Face Tag' on YouTube and then Alison from Rock & Glitter posted her 5 which spurred me to join the bandwagon.
The concept is what the title suggests, makeup using just 5 products. (Shock, horror). I'm not one to shy away from a challenge, and let's face it this was going to take to some serious thought.

Not only did I manage it but I was actually pretty impressed what you can achieve with a handful of products.
Here are the 5 I went with.

5 Product Face Tag - The Daily Rumble

Foundation: Original bareMinerals foundation in 'Fairly Light'. £25bareMinerals - The Daily Rumble
I'm a huge fan of this powder foundation. I went for this as it's totally buildable and can double up as concealer if you switch to a smaller brush if you're having a good skin day.

Blusher: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in 'Etheral Glow'. £28
Hourglass Ambient Lighting - The Daily Rumble
One of my all time faves. The swirly mixture of colour and Ambient Lighting powder gives you two products in one. Great cheek colour and then a touch of subtle highlight in one swipe. I used a pencil brush to pick out the lighting powder to pop some under my eyebrows and down my nose for a touch of highlight.

Eyeshadow: Maybelline 24 hour Colour Tattoo in 'Pink Gold'. £4.99
Maybelline 24 hour Colour Tattoo in 'Pink Gold - The Daily Rumble
The colour tattoos are one of my favourite drugstore eyeshadows. They are seriously long wearing so you can totally skip an eyeshadow primer. I applied mine with a brush and took a few seconds to blend well to avoid a harsh edge.

Soap & Glory Archery 2-in-1 Eyebrow Pencil & Brush in 'Hot Chocolate'. £8
Soap & Glory Archery 2-in-1 Eyebrow Pencil & Brush - The Daily Rumble
Love this eyebrow pencil, easy to apply and long wearing. I used my imagination and doubled this up as an eyeliner too. Genius!

Mascara: L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes so couture in 'Black'. £10.99Mascara: L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes so couture in 'Black' - The Daily Rumble
Great mascara. Gives volume and length. Doesn't clump or flake.

So there you have it. I was actually happy with the result. I would totally do a 5 product face if I was short of time. Perhaps adding a little under eye concealer. And a touch of lipstick. Oh and maybe a swipe of lipgloss....

I tag YOU. Do a 5 product face and share! What 5 products would you use?

Check out a full review of the Soap & Glory eyebrow pencil here

I'm off to pop on some lipgloss!

Tried & Tested - Maybelline 14 hour lipstick

Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble
As a self confessed beauty product addict I'm forever on the search for the ultimate lipstick. One that delivers serious pigment, doesn't bleed or get on your teeth and lasts all day (& night) long.

I've yet to find a long wearing lipstick that I really genuinely love. They are either available in so-so colours, are seriously drying or just don't live up to their last-all-day claims.

Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble

Maybelline have a range of lipsticks that promise to last a huge 14 hours - the Superstay 14 Hour Lipsticks.

The first thing I noticed whilst shopping was the huge colour selection - there's the Superstay & the newer Megawatt Superstay (20 shades in total I think). Not only that but the colours really stood out. From neon pinks, to bright corals and rich nudes I instantly wanted them all.

Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble

Having some serious self-restraint I picked up just two. (Yes two. I know!). One standard
Superstay stay in 'On and On Pink -150' (a shimmery pink) & one Megawatt in 'Burst of Coral - 455' (a neon pink).

Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble

Firstly the packaging doesn't set me on fire however for £6.99 I can live with it. The lipsticks themselves look stunning in the tubes. Vibrant colours that really do look as smooth as a baby's bum.

The only way to see if they last 14 hours was to put them to the test. I opted to try the Megawatt in Burst of Coral first. (I apologise in advance for the terrible selfies you're about to witness. All in the name of research!)

Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble
Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble
It applied beautifully, immediate shock of real solid colour. Liked the fact that it's scented, almost like sugary sweets. It felt a little sticky but not too much. The colour really was outstanding.

After 1 hour:
Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble
So far so good. It hadn't budged at all. Still felt a little sticky.

After 2 hours - the colour had started to clump on in the inner part of my lips but rubbing them together soon corrected it. Impressed so far.
After 5 hours:

Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble
After 3 hot drinks and lunch the colour was still there but definitely not as bright as when it was first applied.
The colour had stuck to the outside of my lips but had started to wear in the inner part. Started to feel a little dry. I would normally choose to reapply it around now. Still looks okay however.
After 7 hours:

Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble
Only a little bit of change from the 5 hour mark. Still hanging on in there but major wear at the inner part of my lips.

After 10 hours:

Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble
After more food and a few drinks it was still on my lips. A little more faded and worn but my lips still looked like they've got lipstick on. Okay, the coverage wasn't even and the colour not as neon bright but considering how long it had been it wasn't too bad at all.

After 14 hours:

Maybelline 14 hour Colourstay Lipstick - The Daily Rumble
A huge, huge difference to the start of the day but it's still on there, just.

So, what's my overall opinion? As a neon super bright gorgeous coloured lipstick these really are fabulous. They deliver serious colour.

Do they last 14 hours? Well technically yes.
At the end of 14 hours there was still colour on my lips. Did it look like it did when I first applied it? Not at all.
I think if you reapply every 3 hours or so you will have continuously flawless colour but you can't go all day without retouching if you want to keep an even lip.

For the price, the fact that Maybelline is always on offer in either Boots or Superdrug and the great colour selection these really aren't bad at all however my search for the perfect lipstick continues......

Have you found a seriously long-lasting lipstick you love?

Annoying mum shiz

Ethan Rumble - The Daily Rumble
As a mum simple things can make you happy, like a super loud baby bum-pop at the most inappropriate time or balancing a white tiger stuffed toy on your little one's head & taking a photo. Little things can cause utter joy.

On the other hand when you're sleep deprived and smelling of milky sick some small things can also make you cross. Like blimin' mad. Things that you normally wouldn't bat an eyelid at.

As a mum of two, with an 11 week old, here is a little list of shiz that gets me going 'grrrrr'!

~ When you go to pull out a single baby wipe but pull out 15 instead. Argh. *tries to stuff 14 back into the packet*

~ Putting on a nappy, pulling on the tab a little too hard and it rips off. You still try to do it up, 5 times, before giving in and getting a new one.

~ Making a bottle of formula and loosing count of the scoops of powder you've already put in. Even though you were counting out loud. *chucks it all away and starts again with a new bottle*

~ Thinking of getting an early night when you realise you've not washed and sterilised the baby bottles. All 8 of them. And you've run out of washing up liquid. And the dishwasher still has an hour on its current cycle.

Ethan Rumble - The Daily Rumble

~ You've spent 20 minutes (actually make that 45) bouncing your baby in his rocker to get them to sleep only for the dog/postman/telephone to immediately wake them the very second they close their eyes.

~ The fact that your baby waits for a clean nappy and a brand new outfit before doing the biggest most explosive poop known to mankind.

~ The baby department alllways seems to be upstairs in stores. Why? The department suggests you'll more than likely have a buggy & therefore rely on a elevator. Why can't it be on the ground floor?

Ethan Rumble - The Daily Rumble

~ The magical disappearing dummies/pacifiers. Where on earth do they actually go? Perhaps my chihuahua collects them.

~ Tops with too tight necks. *tries to squeeze T shirt over baby's head*. Cue cries and angry baby.

~ You leave something in the washing machine which turns your huge baby clothes white wash grey. Grey is the new black, right?

~ Rain. The sky could be bright blue with not a cloud in site but when you finally are ready to leave the house (which has only taken you 3 hours) the heavens open and it pees down.

~ You can never, ever successfully collapse the buggy in a packed car park. With 20 people watching. *I've done this before. Honest*

~You get unexpected visitors the one day you decide to not wash your hair. Or put on make up. And you're in baby sick stained PJs. At 4 in the afternoon.

I'm pretty sure there's a whole lot more to add to that list! As a mum what simple things make you mad?

Check out '20 ways you know you're a new mum' here & 'How not to be a mombie' here

I'm off to re-wash a once-white load.

Candle lovin' - How to care for your candles

Love heart candle - The Daily Rumble
Buying candle after candle is one of my guilty pleasures. I have them in every room. I currently have 22 large unburnt candles in my ever-increasing collection. (Perhaps I should change guilty pleasure to over-the-top obsession).
Yankee Candles are my fave but I'm drawn to any that smell good enough to eat.

Yankee Candle - The Daily Rumble

Good candles aren't cheap however I think they're worth every single penny. If you're going to part with your hard earned cash on a candle there are some very simple things to do to get the absolute most out of your purchase.
Yes, you can just light it and leave it, but if you want your candle to last longer, to throw off more scent and not to smoke follow these easy steps!

Yankee Candle - The Daily Rumble

Trim the wick
When you buy a candle the visible wick is often too long and needs trimming. You want the wick to be about 1/4 inch. Why? Well, a too long wick causes the candle to smoke.
It's a myth that cheap candles smoke and expensive ones don't. It's not about the candle itself but the wick length.

Don't forgot to trim it throughout its use as well. Keep it short to stop the smoke and to extend the life of the candle. It will also stop the black 'mushroom' build up you get on a wick too.

How to trim the wick:
You can use sharp scissors which is easy when the candle is brand new but as you burn it the easiest and best thing to use is a purpose made wick trimmer.

Yankee Candle wick trimmers - The Daily Rumble

This might seem a bit extravagant but it really isn't. My wick trimmer was only £4.99 from Yankee Candle. The good thing about a wick trimmer as it cuts the wick in one easy snip and then easily lifts out the bit you've cut off.

WoodWick - The Daily Rumble

Burn time
Don't you hate it when a large candle tunnels? You know what I mean - when it just burns down in the middle leaving most of the unmelted wax in a thick ring around the edge. This is a total waste if candle and it's really easy to stop.

If your candle tunnels it simply means that each time you light it you're not leaving it to burn for long enough. A large jar candle takes around 3 hours for the surface to melt, and this is what you want.
If you light a large jar candle and blow it out after an hour it will tunnel. Each and everytime you want the top of the candle to completely melt so you need to leave it burning for a good 3 hours.

If you want to light a candle but you know you're only going to let it burn for an hour don't light a large jar, go for a votive or scented tea light instead.

Put it out, don't blow it out
Blowing out your candle will also cause it to smoke. You need to put it out, using something like a candle snuffer.
I use a metal butter knife. Just push the wick into the melted wax and immediately lift it out again. This will stop the smoke and the jar/holder turning black.

Yankee Candle - The Daily Rumble

Rotate your candles
You know after you've worn the same perfume for a while you just stop smelling it on yourself? Well the exact same thing applies to scented candles.

Yankee Candle - The Daily Rumble

If you burn the same smell continuously the chances are your nose will just get used to the scent and you'll stop noticing it. Rotate your candles and you'll enjoy the scent for the entire candle's life.

Yankee Candle - The Daily Rumble

Votives
Votives are the short and chubby candles. To get the most scent, burn them in a purpose made votive holder or tight fitting candle container.

Yankee Candle - The Daily Rumble

A votive holder allows the candle to melt evenly, stops wax wastage and therefore gives you the maximum scent throw. If you don't put a votive in a holder the wax will just pour over the edge and make a great big waxy mess.

Other important candle-ly stuff
Never ever leave a lit candle unattended & keep them well out of reach from children & pets.
Always protect the surface the candle is sitting on, they can get pretty hot.
And finally don't stand directly over a lit candle, especially if you're wearing a lot of hairspray!!

So there you go, how to give your candles some lovin' in just a few easy steps.

What's your favourite candle brand? What candle scent do you enjoy the most?

I'm off to light a Yankee!

Tried & Tested - Wen Cleansing Conditioner

Wen by Chaz Dean - The Daily Rumble - Emma Rumble
The curse of QVC strikes again. Around 3 months ago I was watching an hour dedicated to Wen by Chaz Dean. A brand & a man I had never heard of.
After 15 minutes or so of watching I picked up my phone and ordered 'Today's Special Value'.

What did I buy? Well, it was a new hair-washing concept that I was really intrigued to try.

Wen by Chaz Dean is a range of hair products free from chemicals or harsh detergents - the star of the show being a cleansing conditioner. An all in one product to replace your traditional shampoo & conditioner combo. Sulfate-free, it promised to leave my hair shiny & manageable whilst replacing my shampoo, conditioner, treatment, detangler and leave-in conditioner. See why I bought it!?
Wen by Chaz Dean - The Daily Rumble - Emma Rumble
I purchased a set that contained two large cleansing conditioners, one in Pomegranate & one in Sweet Almond Mint, plus two Re Moist Intensive Hair Treatments in the same 'flavours'. The set was pricey but with QVC's money back guarantee I had nothing to loose. (Unfortunately it seems you cant get the same four piece set at the moment but you can get one of the cleansing conditioners with it's matching treatment for £32).
Wen by Chaz Dean - The Daily Rumble - Emma Rumble
Wen by Chaz Dean - The Daily Rumble - Emma Rumble
So what's the product like? The cleansing conditioner is just like, well, a conditioner. You use the product twice - once as the shampoo and the second as the conditioner. It feels very strange indeed - it doesn't lather, it literally feels like you're rubbing conditioner into your roots.

Wen by Chaz Dean - The Daily Rumble - Emma Rumble
On the first use I was very sceptical to whether or not it would actually get my hair clean. Well, I needn't have worried - my hair was super clean, easy to comb through and it smelt amazing. (Both 'flavours' smell good enough to eat). I left my hair to dry naturally and it was so soft, shiny and remarkably pretty frizz-free. I was hooked!

I've been using both the Pomegranate and Sweet Almond Mint for about 2 and a half months exclusively. The bottles were large so they've lasted a decent amount of time (good job really considering their price). Every now and then I used the Intensive Treatments but my hair has felt so good I didn't really feel the need to.

The cleansing conditioners are really enjoyable to use, you soon get used to having no bubbles when you wash your hair. I found that a good tip was to use, & leave in, a tiny tiny amount of the cleansing conditioner on the ends of my hair whilst it was still soaking wet to really seal in the moisture.

Now, here's the thing. Both of my bottles are almost empty but I haven't rushed online to repurchase them. Probably because of the price if I'm honest. One 480ml bottle on it's own is £27 (plus P&P). Yup, that's super expensive. I loved the product. I enjoyed using it & got great results but the fact that I haven't bought it again says a lot - it's great but not life changing! Perhaps if it were a touch cheaper I'd get it again.

You can check out Wen by Chaz Dean here.

Have a read at some more of my Tried & Tested posts - Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil here & Memebox here.

Have you tried Wen? If so, what do you think? What's your fave shampoo & conditioner?

I'm off to watch some more QVC!
